Whoops! (meetings, romance, fries)

Grr. I woke up way too early and was just waiting around for my 11a meeting. I was the organizer so around 9:30a I started feeling like all I wanted to do was make tacos and watch a Love show.

So I moved my meeting to Monday!

I regretted it! Usually, I would've felt instantly better. Twist!

Grr. Now I'm hoping I don't have stress for putting off this deliverable until the last minute. I tried to mitigate this by creating a plan for Monday and Tuesday of next week. It helped, a bit.

I was struggling to figure out what I wanted to do with my day. My loose weekly highlights has Fridays as Fry-day at MacDonald's. As a pre-early retiree, I want to get my free stuff. So do I forego my free fries and hamburger today? IN favor of tacos. Or do I try to do both. I got stuck. Is my weekly highlights things to hit or just something to look forward to if I have nothing.

I'm forgetting my rules and losing my rhythm.

This Antigua trip is confusing. I don't know what to do with it. I've been to the Carribean. The vacation would be fun. But fun enough to use my vacation time? I don't know what the purpose is.

My theme of #moreFun and trying to enjoy the last year or 2 of my 30s isn't off to a great start so the theme isn't really sticking.

The Verandahs is technically a good bargain. Do I even know how to have fun? Will I recognize it?

I was brainstorming. Yes, thinking past this year, but also this year. Marriage can't be a goal. It's not the way I wanted, so I have to re-adjust. As my counselor would say, that's just life.

Romantic relationships are just going to look different for me. It's more companionship and fun I guess.

I don't have long deep standing relationships with anyone. So it's a huge leap to think I can achieve this with romance. SO MANY FAIL EVERYDAY, even skinny white women. So this can't be my goal. It's simply not achievable.

It's like relying on lottery winnings to support any part of my life. Silly right.

So I'm still plotting out what a relationship might look like in my life, post-40.

No more sex! Yes, sorry to be graphic. No unprotected sex and no fluid exchanges and no oral sex! Part of the appeal is to "trap" a guy and hold out. But if the goal isn't marriage, I don't know that I ever need to have sex. Ever again!

No more showers!! Haha.

That's one benefit. That ridiculous amount of grooming and freshening up. Freed! That's an immediate benefit.

I don't have to worry about when to "give it up" or be coy and wait. It's just off the table.

No more STD tests or HIV tests. No, nothing!

Like my friendships, and current relationships with my family, ok fine mostly my 'friendships' - it's just casual, circumstantial, convenient, something to do. (BUT: I'm never paying for a date again.)

I won't get to practice much from Dr. Pat's book, but that's okay. I enjoyed reading that book A Lot!

I'll get on an app; go on some dates that seem fun. No pressure, no trying to say or do the right thing. No goals or objectives to meet.

I'm not moving to Seattle or have to worry about convincing someone to date me long distance or how to frame what exactly I'm doing. There's no end goal there.

I like flirting with cute boys. I like day dreaming of a fantasy romance. But that's not reality. I have to recommit to my Hallmark movies. That's my community. I'm an old lady who likes to eat bon-bons and watch romantic dramas. That's just who I am. For a long time, I thought this was achievable and something I wanted for my life. I can try to do live -action role playing. But it's all fantasy.

As the French girl says, it's just someone to pass the time with. That's all. No grand sweeping motions of someone to do life with. To grow up with. To sharpen and make better (me or them). Those days are gone. I'm almost 40, I'm a grown up. Logically, if you're not adding value to my life, that relationship is not sustainable or beneficial to me.

This is who I always was but I got lost in the status society said I should want. I'm not a man, I don't have as many emotional or physical needs that need to be met.

Can I have a FIRE movement away from traditional relationship benchmarks. Just like a 30 year career is no longer desirable, so is a 30 year marriage. How is that different?

There is that sense of loyalty and tradition and history. And this beautiful pension of riding into the sunset together in both scenarios.

But like your employer, your partner can replace you at any time - you can be fired, laid off, made redundant, treated poorly; your workload and responsibilities can change; your dream job or dream relationship becomes a nightmare. Or you realize work isn't for you.

It's what I used to say in my 20s - if marriage is work and I don't like work, why would I want to be married. I used to say, I only want to be married if I don't have to work. That's still true! Except it's been expanded to include long-term relationships.

But where's the online community of FIREd Relationships. Where are my people who have absconded traditional marriage/relationships and forged their own path.

Emotionally independent; single early? Doesn't have the same ring. We'll workshop it.

Friday, 6 am

Bounded out of bed again this morning

It was only 6a. D'oh! And now the internet is not working

Oh well

I guess I really am old, waking up early for no reason

I think this is Day 3 of good sleep. Nice.

It's Friday.

Work still makes me nervous, even on light days.

Recovering from small wobbles that previously would have left me a hot mess.

A nicer house sounds nice now that I half jokingly have identified my passion slash purpose as watching TV and eating snacks.

I think maybe marriage was never my goal. It couldn't have been. It's always been not good enough for me. With that lifted, it shifts how I plan my trips this year. Less about being there for weekends to date. I might still go for weekend, but it's more to have time off to explore.

But I have more responsibility at work these days so it's a new variable in the puzzle.

Other thoughts from bed:

I think forty is too old to want to be married; there's a foolishness with 'love' that I just don't have in me anymore. But it's so hard to give up a fantasy.

I'm not interested in planning a life with a fat old bald guy. I'm just not. Maybe I'm a man after all.

If this is how the rest of my life looks, it's fine. It's still not a I-want-to-do-this until I’m forty thing, but it's fine. I do want a nicer house.

It's weird that Maryland Aunt wants me to plan trips for her and her older sibling. I'd rather die.

Still not sure about Antigua trip. It doesn't matter either way. It'd be an easy yes if it's somewhere I've been dying to go or people I'm dying to hang out with. But it's neither of those things.

None of those things are a huge priority or part of any known value system for me. I know I can keep myself alive whether I go or not.

Now that the work day start is nearing, I want to go back to bed. Humans.

Bounded out of bed

I'm not sure why I keep bounding out of bed like it's Christmas. But yesterday was another night where I slept through the night and woke up cozy and decided I was not going to lounge around in bed.

So I bounded out of bed around 7a and here I am. Kind of avoiding a bit of work, but I'm hoping after my morning meeting, I can take it easy.

I have oatmeal which will be a nice warm treat on this overcast day.

Been thinking more about Antigua. It would be fun to do some water sports. But it's harder to get to Antigua from my little small town without staying overnight somewhere.

If it comes down to it and I have to spend the extra money. I think I figure I'd rather travel with the group on the departure and knowing my way around a bit, would be okay to leave a day early if it meant I could get on a flight that made more sense for me.

But flying out of Raleigh adds an extra $100 in airport parking.

So this is definitely not a budget trip. I just wish I enjoyed the company more.

I'm thinking maybe I'll even request the time off so things will be taken off my plate and then cancel at the last minute depending on workload and reserve my time for another trip. Genius or Evil Genius?!

Back from doctor's

Even though I'm a bit agitated now, I know I'll recover soon. Just got to re-adjust.

I was at the doctor's longer than necessary because the name change caused my check in time to take almost 30 minutes. So I don't think the nursing staff knew that so I think they weren't too happy about that. Because my time with the doctor felt like less than 5 minutes.

But at the end of the day I got the things I wanted:

- an STD test with HIV bloodwork taken

- biometrics

- a recommendation for a primary care doctor

- copy of my old lab tests

And I actually asked the question about dryness in the cookie jar and she said it's not common after a hysterectomy because I still have my ovaries. More foreplay. My thoughts exactly. I think there was some side effects after some birth control I took and I think there was dryness after my surgery but oh well.

I didn't ask for the anti-depressant like my therapist wanted because honestly, the appointment was so rushed I had to go to my safe place to even ask for what I wanted.

Which I did!

She asked me, may I ask why you changed your first, middle, and last name. I couldn't tell if some of the of the follow-up questions were because she thought I was scamming something. But what? I always did wonder why some people don't try to commit more health insurance fraud. Maybe they do.

Then I got stuck thinking about the question because my answer did not seem too convincing. I don't know even just leaving for the appointment this morning, I felt renewed somehow. I just wanted to live my life the way I wanted. Say the things I want and be who I want. No covering or hiding in the shadows. Do you know I don't even say I'm a pharmacist when people ask what I do?

I'm not sure I remember why. I think I like people treating me like a normal person, and not some highly educated xyz. Or like a 'dumb black girl.' I don't know.

Without actively hurting anyone's feelings, I want to just live every aspect of myself. Brace yourself, MERJ, it won't happen overnight.

Anyway, I couldn't decide what I wanted for lunch. The African food place is close to the doctor's office but there 'everything is $20' pricing just feels wrong still. And I wasn't craving it as much as I thought.

I also wanted to get the Food Lion spend done and over with. I figured I'd just get 4 of the Dan Dan noodle bowls. I don't love their $5 price tag either and no matter how much I try can never stock up. $5 for a frozen meal just doesn't add up when I can get $1.50 meals at McDonald's.  Luckily it was on sale, for 50 cents off. So I just got the 2.

I needed to still make it to $10 so I picked up a box of cereal. And then decided I'd been wanting hot cereal, so got a box of generic low sugar oatmeal.

That wasn't enough for the second $10 so I bought a $7 gift card to Food Lion for Transaction #2. Phew! Now I'm done with this bank bonus!

Yay!

Then immediately after returning to my car, I was hungry for the African food. Hahah, too late! I was too close to home. Luckily the Dan Dan noodles don't require much thought. But by the time I turned the stove on, I realized a banana and a nap was all I really wanted.

Anyway, I'm noticing my recovery is faster after minor upsets. Don't know how to quantify it.

Anyway, just wanted to share.

A Day Off

I did one thing my male counselor suggested and reached back out to Orkin. They were supposed to call me- surprise, surprise, no one called me. Silly White Man.

Do I address with him that the things he thinks are true along race lines are like believing in Santa Claus. Too risky. Changing people's opinions about race relations is not my job.

Anywhoozle. I actually woke up happy eventhough I'm not looking forward to being poked and prodded. I haven't decided what my treat is because I don't want to overdo things after my latest round of GI distress. I'm curious if this is something I should start tracking.

I showered ...with soap!

I had a quick thought recently, if I want to live somewhere nicer, I could try to save $100k over the next 5 years (in addition to my default $36k/yr) and put $100k down on my next house. Thereby increasing my house budget to $200k. Maybe I could get somewhere nicer. And instead of having a home base, have an actual house.

Then I dismissed the thought. I'm not in the market for any hard long-term goals.

Anyway, all I really wanted to say is I'm glad I have the day off today. I've been working full days the last 2 days, and I find myself still pretty activated for a few hours after. I can't focus on much and just want to zone out.

On the one hand, it's nice to be busy, but also weird.

Even though I only worked 2 days this week, they were both mentally taxing. So I'm glad I don't have to work after my doctor's appointment. I'm not even slightly tempted to check my work email.

Been thinking I might want to get a library card, but not sure I want to fill my day with errands either.  Kinda bummed I missed my chance to use my debit card at Food Lion. I have 2 more $10 transactions to make for one of the bank bonuses.

Ok, not feeling as inspired to write as I thought. Gonna sign off for now.
