Welcome back to
My Early Retirement Journey.
In case you're just joining us, here's a little bit about me. I am a
single 30-something, openly Christian, hesitantly immigrant
-y,
human woman. I love watching TV while eating takeout, and I want to
retire early. I currently work as a consultant in a tele-health call
center making around $40/hr. I started my professional life in 2015 at
the ripe
ole age of 31 after a few false starts. I spent 2016
paying off about $10,000 worth of credit card debt. I spent 2017 paying
off about $20,000 in private student loans; I still have about
$300,000 in federal student loans for
which I am currently on an income-based repayment plan for the next 25
years, give or take. I started really getting into savings and
investing late 2017 when I stumbled upon the FIRE (financial
independence, retire early) community. In 2018, I made the decision to
try to
save for a sabbatical and
maybe if all goes well continue the journey to early retirement. Along
this journey, I give weekly
more personal than finance updates just like this one. Come along with
me, I urge you!
I tried this chart
last week and I'm still undecided, so I thought I'd give it another go.

the week before last.

Oh wow, I love how detailed your weekly updates are! From finances to meal planning to a daily journal, I'm really amazed. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteI feel inspired to do my own daily journaling now. I've been trying to get into the habit of daily journaling but I keep procrastinating. Maybe posting it on my blog will force me to be more accountable :)
Hey, Liz! I'm glad you stopped by today. Thanks for the support. I heart regular journaling. I imagine myself one day looking back and wondering who I was way back then. Yes, blogging can be a powerful accountant of sorts when you want it to be.
DeleteOMG, you've been buying a single portion of oatmeal from a vending machine??!!! My frugal bones are creaking at the very thought. Thankfully you have bought a proper (frugal) sized box so I can relax a little. Maybe a few blueberries or raspberries to top your oatmeal? Get a little fruit in without having to chop it.
ReplyDeleteHave I missed a post where you mentioned Aunty MERJ has stage 5 kidney disease? Sorry, I knew she was confused, didn't realise she was very poorly physically as well :-(
I don't know if I did post that or not. Downside of the chart, it's not searchable. And I only heard my cousin say that, but when I searched her med records didn't see any mention of that. She might still be at Stage 4. Yeah, it's so hard to say where she is healthwise. Definitely not great, but prognosis is undefined at this point.
DeleteYes, the oatmeal...haha... it's not the first time, prob won't be the last. Food is just not where I practice the most frugality, it's so minor when I'm just feeding me.
Um...you'll be heartbroken to know I've never even purchased raspberries in my whole life. I think I've bought blueberries once or twice when I tried to make muffins from scratch. Also as you can see I only spent $7 on groceries this week... it's not going to be a banner week for healthy eating.
